My wife went for a mammogram once. She got recalled for further views, which turned out to be okay. However, we spent a couple of weeks worrying about what might be.
She never went back. Apart from the anxiety inducing false positive screening views, like you she didn’t like putting her breasts in a vice. She’s quite convinced that the squishing itself is harmful!
And she and I both agree that the stats show it’s useless. At least, when I was talking to my patients about the uselessness of most of these screening tests, I could say that my wife and I lived what we preached.
